Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique “SMRT” – Shoulder & Ribcage

24 CE’s – NCBTMB Approved
Dates: 26, 27 & 28 October 2012
Times: Friday 1pm-7pm, Sat/Sun 8am -6pm

Outline of course:
Spontaneous Muscle Release Technique (SMRT) is a series of passive contractions that allow therapists to release muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue. This allows natural realignment of joints, painless resolution of trigger points, and removal of adhesions, which leads to homeostasis restoration of the area being worked. SMRT has a balancing effect on the nervous system and is extremely stimulating to the lymphatic system. Additionally, the technique unblocks meridians and moves stagnant energy out of the system.

The course begins with the shoulder and axilla. Mobilizing the humerus, shoulder joint, clavicle, scapula, and first rib will be taught, along with specific releases for each muscle in the shoulder and axilla. Next, the ribcage will be the focus, as we explore how to release the intercostal muscles and allow space between each two ribs. When we get to the upper back, along with learning to release each muscle in the area, training will be given in how to release the ligaments in the costovertebral joints, allowing the upper thoracic vertebrae, erectors, and transversospinalis muscles to release and relax.
